Strong winds and rain are set to batter England in the next few days as Storm Isha hits the country.

The cold Arctic air that has been bought snow and ice to parts of the UK in recent days is subsiding, replaced by an Atlantic influence which will bring a return to milder conditions, but also bring wet and windy weather across the UK today Sunday (January 21) and Monday (January 22).

A yellow weather warning is now in place in Birmingham for wind today and Monday. According to the Met Office wind gusts of up to 54 mph and light rain are forecast to hit the city on Sunday night at around 9pm, with gusts of up to 36mph expected on Monday morning and Monday evening.

The windy weather is expected to die off around Tuesday, although there could be some heavy rain on Monday and Tuesday. There are no flood warnings currently in place in the city.

A very windy evening with gales likely, and often very wet too. Turning somewhat less windy and drier overnight, with clear spells and a few blustery showers. Frost free. Minimum temperature 6 °C.

Monday:

Another windy day, albeit not as windy as today. Much brighter with sunny spells at times and just a small chance of a brief blustery shower. Feeling chillier than today. Maximum temperature 9 °C.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Changeable. Wet and windy on Tuesday with heavy rain at times and very mild. Brighter and less mild on Wednesday with winds easing. Further windy and showery weather on Thursday.
