Thousands of people have signed a petiton aimed at getting the Aston-born rocker a knigthood, and the city’s MPs are also calling for Ozzy to be knighted. Writing to the Queen, Khalid Mahmood, Preet Gill, Gary Sambrook, Andrew Mitchell, Jess Phillips, Liam Byrne an Shabana Mahmood have all called for Ozzy to receive the accolade.

Posting on Twitter, Birmingham MP Khalid Mahmood, said:”I am humbly requesting Her Royal Highness Queen Elizabeth II @RoyalFamily to bestow and honour to @BlackSabbath for their services to music. There will be a public release on 12th August 2022 at 1pm at Black Sabbath Bench, Broad Street.”

Ozzy put on a stellar performance to close the Games despite the fact the 73-year-old has been suffering from serious health issues in recent years. In 2003, Ozzy suffered a fall and dislodged metal rods placed in his spine following a quad-bike accident. He also suffers from Parkinson’s disease and emphysema - a lung condition that causes shortness of breath.

The Birmingham rocker also conracted Covid-19 in May, but fortunately made a full recovery. After undergoing life-changing surgery following his bike crash, Ozzy says he is now on the road to getting his life back, with plans for a solo tour in the UK next year.

Speaking about his ordeal in an interview with The Sun, Ozzy said he’s undergone two operations which “are helping bring me back to where I want to be”.
