A five year trial to send asylum seekers to Rwanda has been launched. Proponents of the policy say it will act as a disincentive for asylum seekers taking dangerous risks to arrive in the UK, while saying that Rwanda is relatively safe and stable. Critics argue that Britain has a distinctive international responsibility for providing refuge to those in need.

Murad says: “When sending people to Rwanda, I think it’s a bad idea. So why not leave them in the UK? They’re not doing any harm, I think they will benefit in the UK, rather than send them to Rwanda.”
Jake says: “I think it’s an absolutely horrendous idea. I don’t think you could come up with a less humanitarian policy if you’ve tried. I mean, it’s been all over Twitter. The reception has been very poor - and quite understandable too.”

Bernard says: “I think it’s shocking. It’s inhumane. Discompassionate. It’s disgraceful. It’s what I would expect from this government. We have the most dangerous government I’ve known in my lifetime. And I wouldn’t expect anything else from them and I wouldn’t expect anything else from Priti Patel. It’s exactly what I would expect from her and the government. I cannot believe that you’re asking me this question. I don’t believe it’s happening. Shocking, disgraceful. I’m disgusted by it. And they should bow their heads in shame.”
