The cats were handed to the animal welfare charity after being found by officers inside a house in Mere Green. Many of the 36 cats required urgent medical care which was administered by vets on scene.

Officers from West Midlands Police Sutton Coldfield worked alongside members of the RSPCA to search the house on Thursday (27 April) following concerns that had been raised by the community.

A photo of one of the cats was shared on social media by the police and it looks like a small tabby and white kitten.

West Midlands Police said: “We detained a woman under the Mental Health Act, she is now receiving support care.”
