Police renew appeal after unidentified man found dead in West Midlands town

Detectives say the death continues to be treated as unexplained

Police have renewed their appeal for information one year after a man was found dead at an address in Sutton Coldfield – with his identity still unknown.

The man was discovered at a property in Grange Lane on August 27, 2025, but despite an extensive investigation, West Midlands Police has so far been unable to identify him.

Detectives say the death continues to be treated as unexplained and the investigation remains active.

Officers have spoken to people in the area and pursued a number of lines of enquiry over the past 12 months as they attempt to establish who the man was and the circumstances surrounding his death.

As part of the renewed appeal, police are again highlighting a photograph recovered by officers during searches of the Grange Lane address.

The photograph appears to have been taken some time ago and detectives believe the man pictured has links to Sutton Coldfield and West Bromwich.

Police hope somebody may recognise him and provide information which could help investigators.

Det Insp Matt Marston, from West Midlands Police's Major Crime Unit, said: “One year on, we remain absolutely committed to getting answers, and we believe someone out there might be able to help us.

“The man’s death is still being treated as unexplained, and we will actively consider any new information provided to us.

“I would urge anyone who recognises the man in the picture, or who has any information that could help us, to please get in touch.”

Anyone with information can contact West Midlands Police by calling 101 or using Live Chat on the force's website, quoting log 1152 of August 27, 2025.

Information can also be given anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
