He’s one of the best known footballers in the world - and now Wayne Rooney is set to take a top job at Birmingham City F.C. and will likely to move to our city and bring his family too.

Rooney, 37, was confirmed as the new Blues coach on a three-and-a-half year deal on Wednesday (October 11). The former England captain is married to Coleen, 37, his childhood sweetheart. The couple share four boys, 13-year-old Kai, ten-year-old Klay, seven-year-old Kit and Cass, five. They have spoken about wanting to add another child to their brood - and include a daughter in their family.

It has not been confirmed if Coleen and the kids will move from Cheshire to Birmingham or nearabouts when Wayne starts at his new position, but a glamorous life certainly awaits them should they move to our amazing city with its waterways, Michelin starred restaurants, beautiful properties and more.

Wayne and Coleen’s relationship timeline

The couple met when they were 12 years old and lived in the Liverpool suburb of Croxteth. They started dating at the age of 16 after leaving secondary school. Just a year later, Wayne was signed to Everton and Coleen became a regular at the matches.

“We want to spend the rest of our lives together and there’s no stronger commitment than getting married,” Coleen was quoted as saying by Closer Magazine.

Coleen has supported Wayne throughout his career and the couple made their commitment to each other permanent when they got married at 22. Their engagement was a quirky one having taken place at a petrol station. Wayne asked Coleen to be his lifepartner with a £46,500 engagement ring.

They are one of the most popular couples of English football and got married in a lavish ceremony on the Italian Riviera in Portofino. The pair are sometimes called Wayleen and they moved into a £1.3m mansion in Formby after the wedding. They welcomed their first child in 2009 and the latest in 2018.

Wayne and Coleen have also been through some difficult times in their relationship, like many high profile people. The devoted parents make sure to spend time with their kids and Coleen often shares beautiful snaps of her life, including her kids.

Coleen was also involved in the Wagatha Christie scandal - a popular name given to the dispute between herself and Rebekah Vardy, which culminated in a 2022 libel case in the English High Court. A documentary on the scandal is set to release on Disney+ on October 18.

Wayne and Coleen celebrated their 15th anniversary on June 12, 2023. It was reported earlier in the year that they will be renewing their vows but there is no confirmation if they went ahead with the ceremony.

Coleen recently opened up about her relationship to British Vogue and said: “It’s been a battle at times, I look at [any] situation we’re in and think, ‘Could we move forward from that? Is it worth moving forward from that?’, I don’t just give up.”

She added: “Wayne and I had our ups and downs. Obviously everybody knows. It’s been hard to go through it in the public eye but there has always been love there.”
