The St Andrew’s faithful have responded to Birmingham City sacking John Eustace and lining up Wayne Rooney.

Birmingham City have received an overwhelming response after sacking John Eustace and lining up Wayne Rooney as his successor.

The majority of supporters appear to be completely and utterly against the decision, while only a minority can see any sense in it whatsoever.

Not only do most Bluenoses feel aggrieved at seeing a popular figure in Eustace departing, but Rooney is by no means a popular replacement as it stands.

The club has explained the “importance of implementing a winning mentality and a culture of ambition”, but Eustace’s achievements suggest that may have been in place already.

Birmingham City supporters respond to managerial shake-up

Birmingham World has asked Bluenoses for their thoughts on Eustace’s departure and Rooney’s likely arrival. The responses overwhelmingly went one way.

John Hall: God help us all - another Zola moment. Oh well, back to fighting relegation again. Surely, with due diligence they should have discovered what happened in the past. I fear the worst; but Rooney’s management credentials are not exactly electrifying.

Wayne Cardall: I can understand parting company with a manager IF his replacement is ultimately a step up in calibre or has a proven track record that is superior to the current one. If this is the case then I believe most people could accept the managerial change but I’m afraid if Rooney is appointed that feel good factor is truly gonna flip 180° with a lot of the fan base because his record is abysmal.

June Humphreys: Why do people keep saying he’s decided to leave? In his press conference he made it clear he’s not interested in any other job and he’s there for as long as they need him. He’s not going anywhere, he’s there to do a job and has no intention of going anywhere else.

Paul Newman: There is a different question to ask, if John Eustace has already decided to leave to go to Rangers or the Premier League would we consider Rooney as a replacement? If not who else would do the job?

Lynn Wickett: You can see why his win rate and performance is so diabolical. Why would the owners want to replace the current manager? Totally pathetic just when you think the club has stability.

Some fans do have the faith, but it’s only a minority

There are a few Bluenoses keen to see Rooney in charge.

Jack McGroarty: Wouldn’t mind him if we didn’t already have big John.

Richard Ruane: I wouldn’t change atm myself, but everything that the new owners are doing is for the best and positive strides. If it happens then I’ve got to trust the process of the Project.I support Blues, not the people who own us, the blokes who pick the team or the blokes that play for us. If they do their jobs properly, I support them while they’re here.

Adrian Ryan: When we are in our hotel by Wembley come the end of the season no one will care who the manager is.

Matt Ramsden: Don’t like it, but we’ve got to get behind him if he’s coming in. I mean if he comes in and we win like 3 out of 4 games and are still pushing around Christmas I assure you people will be singing Wayne Rooney’s blue and white army pretty fast.
