Alison Hammond, 47, and Dermot O’Leary, 50, were announced as This Morning’s interim presenters on Monday (May 22). The pair are filling in for Phillip Schofield, who resigned from the show with immediate effect at the weekend, and Holly Willougby, who is currently on holidays.

Despite making a regular appearance on This Morning for 20 years, fans of the show seem to be dissatisfied with Alison’s new role. Although hailed by many as a national treasure, the Brummie TV legend has fallen victim to many viewers' dismay in reaction to the sudden shake-up of the show.

During Tuesday’s show, in a tribute to hit pop-group, Wham!, Dermot O’Leary exclaimed: “Go Georgie!” to which Alison Hammond responded: “Is he on the show today?”

Her co-star did an excellent job of covering up the mistake by saying: "Andrew Ridgeley! I am so excited. Andrew Ridgeley is going to be on the show today. 40 years of Wham! Can you imagine?"

George Michael unfortunately passed away more than six years ago, on Christmas Day of 2016. Viewers of the show were quick to hound the new Great British Bake Off presenter for her blunder. One Twitter user wrote: “Oh, really, Alison? Did you resurrect him from the grave? I’m gonna guess… no. #ThisMorning."

In her first show as interim host, Alison was scrutinised again by fans for mis-pronouncing Anne Nolane’s name as “Anne Noland”. One user wrote: “can’t cope with @AlisonHammond calling @AnneWNolan Anne Noland 😭 #ThisMorning”. Another said: “When you interview Anne Nolan and call her ‘Noland’ throughout 🤦‍♂️ #ThisMorning”
