Overnight fire at factory unit in Aston linked to ‘growing of cannabis’

Firefighters have been tackling a large fire at a factory unit in Aston this morning.

Crews from Aston, Erdington, Ward End, Perry Barr and Highgate were called after the blaze broke out at a single-storey industrial unit in Argyll Street at around 1am (18 January).

By 1.45am firefighters had made good progress and crews had left the scene by 6am.

A spokesman for the West Midlands Fire Service said the overnight fire is believed to be linked to the growing of cannabis at the factory unit.

Nobody was injured during the incident.

A spokesman for the West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: “We were called to reports of a factory fire on Argyle Street at 1.29am, one paramedic officer attended the scene. However, on arrival we discovered there no patients requiring treatment and we were stood down.”
