Dawn Yates, a financial assistance expert at SingleMothersGrants.org, said:

“People who still go into a branch are usually there because they can’t do it another way, whether that’s paying in cash, sorting out a card that’s stopped working or dealing with something after a death in the family.

“Waiting 45 minutes and then being told to go online is hard on anyone, and harder with children in tow. What a lot of people don’t realise is that a Post Office counter will do the everyday jobs for most banks, so you can pay in cash and cheques, take money out and check your balance there.

“There are more than 250 banking hubs open across the country now as well, with a counter that’s open every weekday. And if a branch has let you down it’s worth telling the bank it’s a complaint, because it then has up to eight weeks to answer most complaints, and if you’re not happy with what it says, or you don’t hear back in that time, the Financial Ombudsman Service will look at it for free.”
