Steve Bull: Huge blow for Wolves but ‘one man doesn’t make a team’

Steve Bull pens his latest column as he discusses Raul Jimenez’s injury setback, Adam Armstrong’s struggles, Wolves’ goalscoring woes and the upcoming test against Burnley.

There was a lot of expectation on Raul Jimenez to come back to Wolves and start scoring goals, so his injury setback is a huge blow.

He came into the side and was doing well, but all of a sudden, he is facing a lengthy spell out.

Wolves are struggling to find the net at the moment and need somebody like Raul. Now he will undergo surgery, and the club must focus on getting him fit and firing again. I wish him all the best.

I don’t think it is a massive blow to Wolves’ promotion hopes, though. One man doesn’t make a team.

Losing Raul for a lengthy period is a big blow for the club, but I still believe we have enough in the squad to push towards the top.

I didn’t want the international break to end because we were on a good run and looking to kick on from the Albion win. But we looked a bit sluggish in our first game back against Middlesbrough.

Hopefully, we can put that behind us quickly and start picking up more points, particularly with a good run of games against teams below us. This is where Wolves must stamp their mark and show they are genuine title contenders.

A lack of ruthlessness in the final third has been the biggest problem. We have created chances but have not been putting them away.

You need that hunger in front of goal. It is frustrating for the supporters and the players, too, but sometimes all it takes is one of those games where you get a lucky goal to kick-start you.

Wolves should know their opponents, Burnley, well, having been relegated from the Premier League alongside them. They should be a match for them.

They need to get over the disappointment of the home defeat in midweek quickly and take something from the game, even if it is just a draw. That would put us in good stead for the three successive home games that follow.

The players need to get on with their jobs regardless of who is injured or unavailable. Whoever gets the shirt must give 100 per cent.

It will be a tough game away from home, but hopefully the players can give the supporters, who are travelling in their numbers, something to cheer about.
