A national manhunt has been launched by Greater Manchester Police (GMP) for a man wanted on suspicious of murder in Tameside last month. West Midlands Police is set to help their fellow force if he is found in the region.

Suspect, John Bellfield, aged 28, is wanted on suspicion of the murder of Thomas Campbell, aged 38. GMP warned people to not approach Bellfield and call 999 if you see him.

West Midlands Police told BirminghamWorld: “This is GMP’s investigation and if there is any “intel” about Bellfield’s whereabouts in the West Midlands, we will assist them.”

Campbell was found with fatal injuries outside his home on Riverside, Mossley, on the 3 July 2022. A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder, along with a 22-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder on 11 August. Both have since been released on bail. Eleven arrests have been made in total so far, leading to three people charged, the GMP said.

GMP said: “We are actively seeking his arrest and ask that anyone with information about his whereabouts contacts us immediately. He is from the Openshaw area of the city and is believed to also have links to Lancashire, but could be anywhere in the country.

“Anyone who knows Bellfield, and may be withholding information, is reminded that assisting a suspect can lead to a prison sentence of up to 10 years. Our detectives continue to investigate Thomas’ death in Mossley after his body was discovered on the morning of 3 July.

“We’ve charged three people so far and continue to keep Thomas’ family updated while our specialist officers support them.
