Recently, we’ve had a look at the famous faces - actors, musicians and even politicians - who were raised in and around Birmingham. Now, we’ve decided to take a look at the famous celebrities who grew up in Moseley and Kings Heath.
Many famous people grew up in the areas which have plenty to offer. Moseley village was voted as the best place to live in the UK for city living in 2015, and Kings Heath made the Sunday Times Best Places to Live 2022 list.
Actors, sportspeople and legendary musicians all come from the districts. With this in mind, we’ve taken a look at the most famous people who are from Moseley and Kings Heath.

5. JRR Tolkien, Kings Heath
The legendary Lord of the Rings writer lived in Kings Heath as a child after moving to Birmingham with his family from South Africa. Soon after, in 1896, they moved to Sarehole (now in Hall Green), then a Worcestershire village, and later back to Birmingham
6. Ann Jones, Kings Heath
Born in Kings Heath, Ann is a British former table tennis and lawn tennis champion. She won eight Grand Slam tennis championships in her career: three in singles, three in women’s doubles, and two in mixed doubles
7. Toyah Wilcox, Kings Heath
Born in Kings Heath, in a career spanning more than 40 years, Willcox has had eight top 40 singles, released over 20 albums, written two books, appeared in over 40 stage plays and 10 feature films. 8. Laura Mvula, Kings Heath
Singer Laura Mvula grew up in Kings Heath. She released her debut studio album, Sing to the Moon in 2013 to favourable reviews, and earning two MOBO awards and a Mercury Prize nomination.
