M6 closure: man dies after falling from motorway bridge

The southbound carriageway of the M6 is closed at junction 7 following the incident

A man has died after falling from a bridge on the M6 motorway in the early hours of this morning (Friday, 18 March).

Police were called at 1.23am to the southbound carriageway at junction 7.

Officers from the Central Motorway Patrol Group along with staff from West Midlands Ambulance Service and Highways England were sent to the site, but sadly the man died at the location.

The southbound carriageway of the M6 is closed at junction 7. This is known as the Scott Arms junction.

The A34 from Walsall to the Scott Arms junction is also closed.

There are currently delays of 45 minutes from J10 of M6 southbound.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police, said: “Both will be reopened as soon as possible but we estimate that the carriageway will be closed until 8am at the earliest.

“In the meantime please avoid the area if you can.

“If you have any information that you think might help us, please call us on 101 quoting reference number 162-180322.

“The charity Samaritans is available 24/7 if you need to talk. Call them free on 116 123.”
