Birmingham road closures: 13 roads for motorists to avoid this week

Birmingham’s motorists will have 13 road closures to avoid nearby on the National Highways network this week (February 28 to March 7)

And five of them are expected to cause moderate delays – with drivers facing holdups of between 10 minutes and half an hour.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that seven closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

M6, ongoing to 5.30am March 25 2022, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 northbound, junction 6, Lane closures for safety critical inspections.

M6, ongoing to 6am March 28, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6, junction 6 to 7 northbound and southbound and A38M City to junction 6, carriageway closure and associated slip roads of M6 and lane closure on A38M out of City for structural repairs.

A38(M), ongoing to 6am March 31 2022, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A38M, junction 6 M6, link road closures with speed restrictions for structural repairs.

M6, ongoing to 6am April 4 2022, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 northbound and southbound, junction 6 to A38M into City AC and BC link roads, carriageway closure for installation of 24/7 hard shoulder closure for structure works.

M42, ongoing to 6am May 1, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 northbound and southbound, junction 10a to junction 4a, hard shoulder and lane closure with link road closures for access to the emergency refuge bays to upgrade signage.

M6, from 9pm September 18 2019 to 6am December 31 2022, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6, junction 6 BC link road, 24 hour hatched area for bridge repairs.

A5, from 9pm December 8 2021 to 5.30am September 30 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A5 westbound, hints bypass between the A453 and A38 junctions, (tamworth to lichfield), temporary speed limit and Lane closure with switching for general construction works.

M6, from 9pm March 4 to 6am March 5, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 southbound, junction 7 to junction 6 - Lane closure for Electrical works.

M6, from 9pm March 4 to 6am March 5, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 northbound, junction5 to junction 6 - Lane closure for Electrical works.

M6, from 8.30am to 4.30pm on March 6, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 Perry barr depot westbound, thornbridge viaduct, Lane closures with temporary traffic signals for drainage pipeline repairs.

M6, from 9pm March 7 to 5am March 12, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 northbound and southbound, junction 6 to junction five - Lane two and lane three closure for drainage Cleaning.

A38, from 9pm March 14 to 6am March 18, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M42 northbound and southbound, junction 11 -(M5, junction 4A), mobile lane closure and slip road closure for weed spraying.

A38(M), from 9pm March 14 to 6am March 15, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A38M out of City to A38 Tyburn Road (C/F Link), link road closure for resurfacing works.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
