Liquid rules at Birmingham & East Midlands Airports explained ahead of summer - has 100ml limit been scrapped?

Many UK airports have scrapped the 100ml liquid limit - but has it been dropped at Birmingham and East Midlands Airport?

At most airports, you can only bring liquids in containers of 100ml or less.

These containers must fit inside one transparent, resealable plastic bag (no larger than 20cm x 20cm), with a total capacity of no more than one litre.

This bag must be removed and screened separately at security.

However, now, some UK airports let you leave liquids in your bag at security thanks to new 3D CT scanners.

Major airports including Heathrow, Gatwick, and Edinburgh have now replaced the 100ml rule with a new limit of two litres per container.

This means passengers flying from these airports can carry liquids up to two litres in their hand luggage, without removing them at security.

With the new CT scanners you also don’t need to remove liquids or electronics at security

Birmingham Airport is among the UK airports that have scrapped the 100ml liquid limit, allowing passengers to bring up two two litres per container.

You do not need to put liquids in plastic bags or remove them at security. Laptops and electricals can also stay in bags during screening.

This applies to outbound flights, but rules for return flights will vary. The airport you are flying from back to Birmingham may have the 100ml liquid limit rule still in place.

East Midlands Airport has recently issued an alert to passengers reminding them that the 100ml liquid limit rule is still in place at the travel hub.

It said: “Flying with us soon?

“When heading through security, all liquids must be under 100ml.

“Liquids and large electricals can be left inside your bag”.
