Joe Lycett declares Brummies are better at making croissants than the French

Joe Lycett has declared the French to be "s***" at making croissants - claiming Brummies are better.

The comedian, 34, said he was unimpressed by the standard of pastries during trips for a travel show. And he told a podcast he’s had better croissants in Salzburg, Rio, Cyprus - and even his home city of Birmingham.

Croissants are thought to date back to 13th century Austria but, at least in the modern day, are famously French. Lycett said: "It’s going to be an unpopular theory, for the French particularly. I love a croissant. France is s*** at croissants.

"I’ve had better croissants in Salzburg, in Rio, in - Cyprus did a better croissant. They do a better one in Birmingham. What are they getting wrong in France?"

Lycett made headlines earlier this year after appearing on a BBC political show where he discussed ex-PM Liz Truss’ campaign. Asked what he thought of the then-hopeful’s policies, he said he was "actually very right-wing", praising her "very clear" proposals.

And the funnyman is back in the news this week after he called out David Beckham over reported links to Qatar. He gave his views on croissants on an episode of Richard Herring’s Leicester Square Theatre Podcast, released today (Wednesday, November 16).
