Local weather Birmingham: How to stay safe in excessive heat

Keep cool and keep safe during the UK heatwave this week

A heatwave continues across Birmingham and the West Midlands, with temperatures reaching 28C.

The warm spell will last until the end of the week, with increased clouds and a chance of rain from Thursday. Friday and Saturday will be bright but slightly cooler. Safety during hot weather is crucial from keeping hydrated to applying your SPF.

For barbecues, use well-maintained equipment, cook on a flat site away from flammable objects, and never use accelerants like petrol. Keep kids and pets away and have a bucket of water nearby for emergencies. Water activities can be dangerous. If you fall into deep water, float on your back and try not to panic. If you see someone in distress, call 999 and avoid entering the water; encourage floating and throw rescue equipment if available. Stay safe and enjoy the warm weather responsibly, taking all necessary precautions.
