Birmingham pub & music venue nominated for Pub of the Year at Great British Pub Awards 2023

A popular Birmingham pub and music venue has been nominated for the Pub of the Year at the prestigious Great British Pub Awards 2023.

The awards celebrate pubs up and down the country by nominating different establishments in a range of different categories. There are a number of Pub of the Year categories sponsored by different pub operaters including Greene King, Marstons and Admiral Taverns.

Called the ‘Oscars of the pub industry’, the different categories also include Pub of the Year, Best Country/Rural Pub, Best Pub for Dogs, Best Pub for Entertainment and more.

Popular Birmingham pub the Hare and Hounds has been nominated for the Pub of the Year award, sponsored by Greene King. The Kings Heath pub will compete against five other establishments for the accolade. The shortlist is here:

• East End Fox - Baillieston, Glasgow
• The Carnarvon - Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire
• Hare & Hounds - King’s Heath, Birmingham
• Lion & Lamb - Little Canfield, Dunmow, Essex
• Stag at Lyndhurst - Lyndhurst, Hampshire
• Guy Earl of Warwick - Welling, South East London

The Hare and Hounds, which also operates as a live music venue, also won the won the Entertainment Pub of the Year award at the Night of Excellence Awards in March this year.

The pub won the award in recognition of its long-established reputation as one of the most influential pub music venues in the country, playing a vital role in Birmingham’s music and creative communities, and the owners will also be hoping to be named Pub of the Year at the Great British Pub Awards 2023.

You can nominate one of the finalists to win through the awards website, here. Tickets are now available for the ceremony, which is taking place on Tuesday 19 September at Victoria Warehouse in Manchester, where the winners will be announced.

Are any other Birmingham or West Midlands pubs nominated?

The Hare and Hounds is the only Birmingham pub nominated at this year’s event, but there are a few other pubs in the region nominated. The Coach House in Stratford-upon-Avon is nominated in the Best City/Urban Pub category.

The Cock & Magpie in Bewdley and the Rose & Crown in Worcester are both nominated in the Pub of the Year category, sponsored by Marstons.
