A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: “A demonstration in Birmingham city centre at the weekend passed largely without incident. Officers were visible in the city to help the large group of protesters move through safely while still protecting members of the public. Despite the largely peaceful nature of the demonstration, there were four arrests made.

“We understand people’s rights, but we also have a duty to protect public safety - both of those taking part in the demonstration and those impacted by it. However, criminal activity is unacceptable and we will take action to arrest and prosecute those responsible.”
