Dudley ranked worst place to exercise in the West Midlands: Here's why
Dudley’s overall ranking was 284th in England.
A West Midlands town has been ranked worst place to exercise in the West Midlands.
Dudley was ranked worst place to exercise in the UK following an analysis of gyms, pools, parks and outdoor conditions across England.
The study, by adult services provider AdultWork, scored every local authority in England on 15 measures that impact opportunities to exercise then calculating an overall score out of 100 for each area ranking them from the best place to exercise to the worst.
Dudley finished last compared to the West Midlands' 30 areas with a score of 38.2 out of 100. It’s overall ranking was 284th in England and it is in England's bottom 50 for public sports halls, parkrun events and traffic-free cycle path per resident.
However, Stafford was ranked 4th place with a score of 56.1 out of 100. The borough has 37 km of traffic-free cycle path and the fifth-lowest level of air pollution where people live in the West Midlands, meaning cleaner air to breathe for anyone running or cycling outdoors.
Commenting on the study, a spokesperson for AdultWork, said: "Where you live has a big effect on how easy it is to fit exercise into everyday life. A gym, a pool or a traffic-free path close to home makes it far simpler to build a regular workout routine.
“Regular exercise does a lot for how people feel about themselves, and a gym class or sports club is one of the best ways to meet new people. Living somewhere that makes exercise easy can make a real difference to both."
