The mother and aunt of a convicted murderer will go on trial next year accused of trying to help the killer flee the UK after he stabbed his victim to death in a nightclub.

Kami Carpenter and fellow murderer Remy Gordon were jailed for life earlier this year for the murder of Cody Fisher at the Crane nightclub in Digbeth, Birmingham, on Boxing Day 2022.

Mr Fisher, a 23-year-old former Birmingham City academy player who had also played for Stourbridge, was pronounced dead at the nightclub after suffering wounds to the chest and leg.

Now Carpenter's mother Jahzeen Carpenter, 39, and his aunt Nadine Taylor, 45, have appeared in court accused of assisting an offender.

It is alleged that in the days immediately after Kami Carpenter and co-defendant Remy Gordon stabbed Mr Fisher to death, the two women attempted to help Carpenter leave the UK while knowing or suspecting he had committed an offence.

Jahzeen Carpenter and Nadine Taylor, both of Peak Drive in Dudley, attended Wolverhampton Crown Court today to deny one charge each of assisting an offender.

They will go on trial on September 1 next year. Judge Michael Chambers KC granted them both bail until that time. Kami Carpenter and Remy Gordon were both jailed for life in April after being convicted of murder. A third defendant was convicted of affray but cleared of murder.
