Adults across the UK are being urged to get their Covid-19 booster vaccination to help protect against the Omicron variant with cases continuing to rise rapidly across the country.

The UK reported its highest number of daily Covid-19 cases since the start of the pandemic, with 183,037 reported yesterday (29 December), breaking the previous high set the day before.

Despite the record high figures, the UK government has confirmed that no new Covid-19 restrictions will be put in place in England before the new year.

In England, the rate of Covid-19 cases rose from 808.7 per 100,000 people in the week to 16 December, to 1,207.4 per 100,000 in the week to 23 December. That is an increase of 49.3%.

At neighbourhood level, coronavirus case rates have been published for the week to 23 December.

Here are the Solihull neighbourhoods which have seen the biggest rise in that time.

1. Smith's Wood North

Smith's Wood North has seen case rates of positive Covid cases rise by 300.1% from 221.2 cases per 100,000 people to 885.0.

2. Castle Bromwich West

Castle Bromwich West has seen case rates of positive Covid cases rise by 285.8%, from 261.8 cases per 100,000 people to 1009.9.

3. Shirley Heath

Shirley Heath has seen case rates of positive Covid cases rise by 195.0% from 325.7 cases per 100,000 people to 960.8.

4. Smith's Wood South

Smith's Wood South has seen case rates of positive Covid cases rise by 169.2%, from 390.1 cases per 100,000 people to 1050.3.

5. Chelmsley Wood West

Chelmsley Wood West has seen case rates of positive Covid cases rise by 127.2%, from 363.5 cases per 100,000 people to 826.0.
