Adults across the UK are being urged to get their Covid-19 booster vaccination to help protect against the Omicron variant with cases continuing to rise rapidly across the country.

The UK reported its highest number of daily Covid-19 cases since the start of the pandemic, with 183,037 reported yesterday (29 December), breaking the previous high set the day before.

Despite the record high figures, the UK government has confirmed that no new Covid-19 restrictions will be put in place in England before the new year.

In England, the rate of Covid-19 cases rose from 808.7 per 100,000 people in the week to 16 December, to 1,207.4 per 100,000 in the week to 23 December. That is an increase of 49.3%.

At neighbourhood level, coronavirus case rates have been published for the week to 23 December.

Here are the Birmingham neighbourhoods which have seen the biggest rise in that time.

Kent’s Moat has seen case rates of positive Covid cases rise by 300.0% from 251.9 cases per 100,000 people to 1007.7.

2. West Heath

West Heath has seen case rates of positive Covid cases rise by 256.0% from 329.9 cases per 100,000 people to 1174.6.

3. Kingstanding North

Kingstanding North has seen case rates of positive Covid cases rise by 184.6% from 449.3 cases per 100,000 people to 1278.7.

4. Buckland End

Buckland End has seen case rates of positive Covid cases rise by 178.4% from 449.1 cases per 100,000 people to 1250.3.

Bromford has seen case rates of positive Covid cases rise by 176.9% from 230.3 caes per 100,000 people to 637.6.

6. Yardley

Yardley has seen case rates of positive Covid cases rise by 152.1% from 271 cases per 100,000 people to 683.3.

7. Northfield Victoria Common

Northfield Victoria Common has seen case rates of positive Covid cases rise by 146.0%, from 497.7 cases per 100,000 people to 1224.1.

8. Kingstanding South East

Kingstanding South East has seen case rates of positive Covid Cases rise by 140.5% from 406.7 cases per 100,000 people to 978.0.

9. Shard End & Kingfisher

10.Druids Heath

Druids Heath has seen case rates of positive Covid cases rise by 126.3%, from 306.2 cases per 100,000 people to 692.9.
