The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Duchess Kate will attend the Commonwealth Games on 2nd August.

Members of the Royal Family will attend the international sporting event, the Commonwealth Games 2022, in Birmingham between 28 July and 8 August.

The Queen and her family have supported the Games throughout their long history - over almost a century.

The Earl of Wessex, the Vice-Patron of the Commonwealth Games Federation, has attended every Commonwealth Games since 1986. In 2014, the Queen opened the games in Glasgow, which was also attended by Princes William and Harry and Kate Middleton and The Prince of Wales opened the 2018 Goldcoast Commonwealth Games and at the 2010 Delhi event.

The Royal Family has not announced if the Queen will be attending the games but they have said that Prince Charles will be opening the event in her place

1. The Prince of Wales, Prince Charles, and the Duchess of Cornwall, Duchess Camilla - On 28 July, they will represent the Queen at the opening ceremony. Prince Charles will deliver the Queen’s message at Alexander Stadium.

2. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Duchess Kate - On 2 August, they will attend the Commonwealth Games.

3. The Earl of Wessex and Countess of Wessex, Prince Edward and Countess Sophie Rhys-Jones - They will be attending the opening ceremony on 28 July. On 29 July, they will attend a series of sporting events throughout the day. On 1 August, they will return to Birmingham to attend the Commonwealth Games between Monday 1 – 3 August. On 8 August, the Earl of Wessex will deliver a speech during the closing ceremony to conclude the games.

4. The Princess Royale, Princess Anne - On 29 July, she will visit the Commonwealth Games Athletes’ Village at Warwick University. She will meet athletes from across the Commonwealth, including those who will take part in rugby, judo, wrestling, and lawn bowls fixtures, before meeting volunteers. She will also attend the Rugby Sevens at Coventry Stadium.
