Birmingham is often considered the home of chocolate in the UK.
It's the city where Cadbury was born and continues to operate today from its factory in Bournville, so the city is the birthplace for what is arguably the world’s most iconic chocolate brand.
But quite a few Cadbury's favourites, as well as other chocolate bars and sweets are no longer on the shelves. And we have had to cope with many of our favourite snacks disappearing from supermarkets, never to be seen again. Despite companies often saying this is due to lack of customer demand, we are pretty sure that many of these discontinued sweets and chocolate bars were incredibly popular.
To see if other people around Birmingham loved the same snacks as us, we asked BirminghamWorld readers on Facebook to share the old, discontinued sweets and snacks they miss the most and received a high volume of suggestions.
So, here are Birmingham's most missed sweets, guaranteed to make you feel nostalgic.
1. Topic
The Topic was a popular snack for a number years. It also one of my favourites, but shoppers noticed earlier this year (2023) that it was quietly discontinued in 2021. A few of our reader mentioned the Topic. Our reader Neesha said: "Please bring it back."
2. Cadbury
The Cadbury Fuse bar consisted of peanuts, raisins, crisp cereal and fudge pieces, but unfortunately left our shelves in 2006
3. Cadbury Spira
The bar was a product in the form of a hollow twisted spiral produced by Cadbury. There were two spiral fingers in each pack, and the brand was initially only available in the south-west and north-west of England in the mid-1980s, before being rolled out across the country Photo: Cadbury's
4. Retro chocolate bars Lancastrians want to see return
Mars confirmed it discontinued the much-loved iconic chocolate bar earlier this year. The Dark Chocolate Bounty left supermarket shelves just two months ago in September. A few of our readers said they missed the treat Photo: Bounty
