25 of the best pictures of Prince William and Kate in Birmingham

The Prince and Princess of Wales made a historic trip to Birmingham ahead of King Charles III coronation - and hundreds of Brummies showed up to meet them

It was a glorious day for Birmingham as the Prince and Princess of Wales visited the city to celebrate our diverse culture and heritage and successful creative industries.

Prince William is an avid Aston Villa fan and the Royal couple showed up in the finest claret and blue apparel. Hundreds lined the streets to meet them - with many surprised that a trip to the city centre featured teh well known faces.

It had previously been announced that Prince William and Kate would visit The Recotry bar in the Jewellery Quarter to meet local creative industry leaders - and play darts. But their visit to the Indian Streatery restaurant on Bennetts Hill on Bennetts Hill had been kept under wraps.

William stunned the Sharma family owners - and Kate - when he went off script and took a telephone booking for unsuspecting customers  Vinay Aggarwal and his wife Ankita Gulati. The couple also took part in a roti making challenge- which was won by Kate.

During the visit to The Rectory the pair came face to face with our own Brummie queen - Alison Hammond - who joined them in a game of darts. Take a look at the highlights of the day in our picture gallery here:
