Police issue new statement after ‘human remains’ discovery in West Midlands woodland

Police have said the discovery of what is believed to be human remains found in woodland near Great Barr is being treated as unexplained.

The remains were found at Cuckoos Nook on Sutton Road near Barr Beacon in Walsall, West Midlands, shortly before 4pm on Saturday (June 4).

Police cordoned off the area while searches were carried out.

Fire crews have been assisting forensics with the search.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police, said: “We continue to investigate the discovery of what we believe to be human remains in woodlands near Cuckoos Nook, Sutton Road, Walsall on 4 June.

“We’ve got specialist support from the fire service who are assisting with an access ramp to enable further detailed searches and forensic analysis of the area. These may take several days.

“The discovery is still being treated as unexplained and we have made a referral to the coroner.”
