Well, we didn't get a white Christmas in 2023, but as temperatures continue to dip you may be wondering whether snow is on the way in the West Midlands.

Birmingham did see a small amount of snow at the start of December, but it was flooding that caused travel chaos in the region and UK as Storm Henk hit, especially in nearby Worcester.

With the flooding subsiding, a cold snap has now taken a grip of the UK. Temperatures plummeted to freezing or below on Sunday evening (January 7). Birmingham experienced -1C overnight, with Glasgow also reaching 0C, and southern areas of England have already experienced snow, with Kent and London seeing flurries of snow on Monday (January 8).

When will it snow in Birmingham?

So with temperatures continuing to dip, you may be wondering whether Birmingham and the wider region will see any snow over the next couple of months.

According to WXCharts, snowfall was previously forecast in Birmingham on Wednesday, January 17 and Thursday, January 18, but it now looks as though the West Midlands will avoid snowfall next week according to the charts - with the weather now set to remain largley dry throughout the rest of this week and next.

Met Office forecast

The Met Office has forecast snow showers, particularly across the north towards the end of January with a chance the white stuff could hit the West Midlands towards the end of the month, although no snow is forecast specifically in the West Midlands by the weather forecast provider at this moment in time.

Met Office meteorologist Alex Burkill has said that heavier snow could be on the horizon for some regions.

The Met Office's long range forecast for Sunday January 14 to Tuesday January 23 currently states in regards to possible snowfall: "There is risk of unsettled weather pushing in from the south through this period, which could lead to a band of snow and sleet where it meets the colder air across the country. Confidence is low with regards to the timing of the arrival of any such disturbance, but there is an increasing risk of something potentially disruptive at some point in this period. Widespread frosts continue to be a feature by night, with a risk of ice in places."
