A spokesman said: “Donations to our appeal will be used to support the work of the Ukraine Red Cross and International Committee of the Red Cross by supporting families with food, first aid and medicines, helping hospitals and healthcare facilities, repairing vital infrastructure and helping to repair homes, schools and community centres.”

Save the Children UK is another charity which has issued urgent appeals for financial help to assist young lives which have been shattered in Ukraine.

It said: “The eight-year conflict in Ukraine has now worsened. Without urgent de-escalation, the crisis will spiral out of control, with devastating consequences for children.

“You can help by supporting our Emergency Fund today. Your donation will allow our teams to help more children in crisis. Over 7.5 million children are in need of support.”

The charity is working with local volunteers, groups, healthcare professionals and authorities to help people travel to healthcare.

It said: “What’s happening in Ukraine is extremely worrying. As hostilities continue, ensuring people’s access to healthcare and medicines will be critical.

“The situation is fast-evolving, so we are mobilising an emergency-prep response to be ready for a variety of needs.
