Taxi app Bolt has announced the opening of its second permanent driver hub in the UK which will be based in Birmingham.

The European ride-hailing service which operates in 16 UK cities says the new site on Gas Street will support the rapid growth of the platform in Birmingham since it launched in June 2021.

Completed journeys grew by 20% between November and December.

The company says it has a long term commitment to reduce the carbon footprint of the private hire sector, offering 100% carbon neutral rides in Europe.

It says it supports Birmingham’s Clean Air Zone.

What will the new Birmingham Bolt hub feature?

Bolt’s new hub will accommodate a driver check-in and waiting area, eight onboarding desks, and social features to help get drivers signed up with Bolt, including a kitchen, lounge area, large boardroom and locker storage for the team.

Bolt is anticipating up to 50 drivers per day will visit the new hub. Drivers can register with Bolt by emailing [email protected] or signing up to the Bolt driver app. Driver commission rates in Birmingham remain competitive to competitors at 15%.

2021 saw Bolt continue its rapid nationwide expansion across the UK, which marked its arrival in 16 UK cities including Birmingham, Leicester, Wolverhampton and Nottingham.

Bolt also recently announced its €628 million funding round to accelerate the transition from owned cars to shared mobility across the globe, and is now operational in 45 countries and over 400 cities with 100 million customers.

What has Bolt said about the opening of its second driver hub in the UK?

Sam Raciti, Regional Manager, Western Europe at Bolt, said: After the success of our first driver hub in London, our second hub highlights our commitment towards the city of Birmingham and our drivers in the region.

“The hub is available to all existing drivers with any queries and to onboard new drivers onto the platform. Our ride-hailing business has now expanded to 16 cities and 4m customers in the UK, with further expansions planned nationwide this year.”
