Unai Emery urges Aston Villa to move on quickly from Carabao Cup exit

Villa are quickly back in action on Saturday night.

Unai Emery has called on Villa to move on quickly from Wednesday’s Carabao Cup exit at Bournemouth.

Villa were beaten 3-0 in the fourth round tie at the Vitality Stadium but Emery has warned there is little time to dwell, with another big week ahead.

His team host Fulham on Saturday night, before a huge Champions League fixture at Barcelona next Tuesday.

Emery said: “We must move on. Some players were adding us their qualities, playing in our structure.

“The result is a bad result and we are disappointed but we must move on and think about our next challenge, Fulham at home and then Champions League next Tuesday.”

Villa had won six out of seven matches heading into the match but were well beaten, with Emery making nine changes to his starting XI.

But the manager saw positives in being able to give players like Leon Goretzka and Brian Madjo valuable playing time.

Though his rebuilt team have received huge praise in recent weeks, Emery also believes Wednesday was indication of just how much further they have to go.

“We have to understand our way and our process,” he said.

“I explained it as well after we won against Manchester City last Saturday. I am thinking the same now, losing against Bournemouth.”
