The Department of Education (DfE) has released its annual ‘Progress 8’ results to show how children’s secondary schools are faring compared with others.
Due to the impact of Covid on school learning and exams, performance data hasn’t been as accurate in recent years as it previoulsy had been, but the new data released by the DfE gives a more complete picture of how secondary schools are performing.
The Progress 8 figures, which give schools a positive or negative score, measures the progress that pupils make from Key Stage 2 in primary school right up to the end of their GCSEs in Key Stage 4.
A score above zero means pupils have achieved better results on average at their school than at other schools across England that got similar results at the end of Key Stage 2.
This means they have achieved an ‘above average’ score.
The DfE figures show that the Michaela Community School in London topped the performance table with a score of 2.37 above zero.
Two schools from Birmingham are also included in the top 10 performing English schools. You can see them ranked below, including the top 11 ranked schools in the city.
