The Kings Coronation bank holiday weekend is upon us - and what better way to enjoy the long weekend than a trip to the pub.
Nearly every weekend in May is a long one - and the nation is preparing to mark the Coronation of King Charles III on May 6 with an extra day off on Monday.
There are a huge number of events being held across the city, including the big screen and free entertainment at Centenary Square.
And hundreds of neighbourhoods are coming together to hold a traditional British street party.
Birmingham is home to a huge number of places named after royalty - from Prince Andrew Crescent in Rubery, Kings Road in Kings Heath, Kingstanding, Kings Norton - and so many more roads, and, of course, the Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield.
1. Kings Arms, Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield
Situated on the Coleshill Road, this popular venue has a 4.5 rating on Tripadvisor. It’s open every day for drinks - including cocktails - and has been in the Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield since 1859. These days, as well as being a pub, it’s an Indian Grill serving fresh food. It also shows a variety of major sporting events too. But next weekend there will be lots of family fun activities for all the family - including face painting and Henna tattoos. | Google Maps
2. Kings Head, Hagley Road
This huge landmark bar dates back more than 100 years and has retained some of its original features. King George was on the throne when it opened a century ago. These days visitors can enjoy a party atmosphere at the weekend when a DJ plays until the early hours. It’s got a great reputation as a delicious Indian bar & grill. But it hasn’t got any special plans for the Coronation Weekend - it’ll be open as normal though | Google Maps
3. Kings Arms, Knowle
This place describes itself as a ‘premium pub, bar and restaurant’. It has its own courtyard and garden. Overlooking the Grand Union canal - it’s certainly a wonderful setting. The menu features traditional British classics and tempting desserts - alongside light lunches. You can stay overnight too - as there’s an Innkeeper’s Collection hotel where you’ll find 10 stylish rooms. It’s pushing the boat out for the Kings Coronation Weekend with a series of fantastic events from Saturday with the fun kicking off at 11am with the Westminster ceremony shown live. Followed by a Beats & Bubbles event. Full details are on their Facebook page. | Google Maps
4. The Windsor, Cannon Street, city centre
This venue prides itself on being a cosy local you stumble across weh you need it most. It has affordable food and drinks, compared to the pricey city centre. It’s taking bookings for the Kings Coronation Weekend and is pleading to make it a special occasion with its perfectly poured real ales and city centre location. | Cannon Street
