The One Trick Pony club in Birmingham was named the best sports bar in the UK in November.
The Moseley Village venue has long been a popular haunt for sports fans in the city, and the Great British Sports Pub Guide recognised the bar as the number one UK venue for watching live sport in its recent study.

To be named the best in the UK is some accolade, so I headed down to the Alcester Road pub on a chilly Wednesday evening to experience the sports bar myself.
The bar opens at 4.30pm on weekdays and 12pm on the weekend and I got there half an hour after the doors opened. The first thing you notice is the sheer number of televisions dotted around the place. The social hub offers an impressive 20 screens across five different rooms, including a huge LED outside for the big games and sporting events.

The bar became busier as the evening went on, with people coming in to watch the live cricket that was broadcast on the screens. I had a pint of Hells and browsed the Irish-influenced food and drink menus after taking a seat on one of the bar's many sofas. If you fancy something light, there is a bar menu which includes nachos, cauliflower wings, calamari and halloumi fries.
The bar also specialises in cocktails, with a Cuban Mai Tai and there own Zombie cocktail that includes rum, pineapple, yuzu, lemon and dried orange, among the highlights. Craft beers such as wild beer IPA and Siren Yulu are also available, as are house beers, numerous red and white wine options as well as soft drinks.

The One Trick Pony also serves classic pub grub. Southern fried chicken and grilled chicken are two of the standout choices on the menu, with pizza and fish and chips, juicy burgers and meat free options also on offer.
After finishing my pint I then headed out into the garden for some fresh air. The garden is impressive, with painting and artwork on the walls, and it's easy to see why the bar is so popular, especially in the summer.

The venue is packed during the big games or boxing events, and the garden will certainly be full with customers when the European Championships take place this summer - and there won't be many better places in Birmingham to watch the England fixtures when Gareth Southgate's team head to Germany for the tournament.
The barmaid told me that the venue is usually busiest on the weekends, and they have live DJ sets on Friday and Saturday nights. The One Trick Pony's commitment to showing all of the biggest sporting events - including all of the big football matches that are broadcast on Sky and BT - as well as the huge number of TVs in the venue - is what really makes it the place to be in Moseley.
It's a must-visit for sports fans who fancy having a few drinks with friends.
