Oi Oi Saveloy! Birmingham’s oldest fish and chip shop hosts celebrity chippie tea with Birmingham City players

Birmingham City Women’s Football Club players Shiv Wilson and Charlie Devlin join a host of Brummie celebs to celebrate the chippie tea at the city’s oldest fish and chip shop.

Hide AdThe players tucked into their favourite fish and chip shop classics at George and Helen’s in Harborne along with Michelin-star chef and TV presenter Aktar Islam, Hissy Fit owner and fashion designer Danielle Graham and interior designer and Interior design Masters contestant Richard O’Gorman.
Chair of Colmore BID’s leisure and hospitality group Alex Tross was also joined the fun along with Chris Hardy, AKA The Fat Foodie and Zoe Barry, founder of Punks and Chancers.
The special meal was set up by Six by Nico founder and head chef Nico Simeone who is about to open the doors to his affordable fine dining experience restaurant on Colmore Row on November 30. The six course tasting concept changes its menu every six weeks - and the launch menu is a fine dining take on the chippie tea, including a deep fried mars bar.

Hide AdYou can see guests giving their verdict on the ‘Chippie Menu’ taking in dishes such as Chips & Cheese with parmesan espuma, curry oil and emulsion and crisp potato terrine, Fish Supper with scrabster coley, pickled mussels, confit fennel, samphire and beer emulsion, and Deep Fried Mars Bar with chocolate pave and Irn Bru sorbet.
Nico, said, “It was an honour to bring our Chippie menu to life by serving it out of a real chippie in Birmingham! We’re now even more eager to open our doors on Colmore Row and be a part of the culinary scene here. Thanks so much to all of the locals who took part and to George and Helen’s for letting us take over their charming fish and chip shop for the day!”
