Birmingham has been named as one of the 10 best cities to visit during winter in 2023.
The Telegraph has released its list of the best European cities to enjoy over the winter months, with Birmingham placed at number two - and the only UK city to feature in the listing.
The UK's second city was mentioned the likes of Seville (Spain) Helinski (Finland) Thessaloniki (Greece) and Berlin (Germany). Birmingham's Christmas German Market makes the city one of the best locations to visit during the festive season, and the market was also pinpointed by The Telegraph.
Birmingham was the only British city named in the list, while Spain had three entries. The report said the best time to visit the city is between November and December.
In its review of the best cities to visit, The Telegraph wrote: "Britain’s second city (calm down Manchester; take a seat Edinburgh) has done a fine job of improving its image since the turn of the millennium, and you might easily spend a long weekend in its company, ambling along its celebrated network of canals, or picking up something which glitters in the Jewellery Quarter."
What are The Telegraph's top 10 winter cities in full?

2. Birmingham
The Telegraph said Birmingham is best to visit between November and December. Its report said: "However, the glitter intensifies at this time of year – as what is somewhat confusingly known as the Frankfurt Christmas Market (Birmingham is twinned with the fifth biggest German city) takes over Victoria Square and New Street. Yet if the name is a minor oddity, the event has become a major triumph, growing from a cluster of some 25 stalls when it was first held (in 2001) to what is now purportedly the largest festive market outside Germany and Austria, with more than five million visitors per year."
3. Berlin
Berlin ticks every box for a great Christmas getaway. You turn back the clock and take a trip to Berliner Weihnachtszei’s nostalgic Christmas market. It has an ice rink and a Christmas Carnival, as well as a medieval market. The Telegraph recommended visiting in December
4. Thessaloniki
The White Tower of Thessaloniki in Greece is particularly special at night. The Telegraph says the best winter time to visit is December
