Applications for Year 7 secondary school places for 2023 are now open in Birmingham.
Children will be able to apply for up to six preferences, including those outside Birmingham.
However, Birmingham City Council only deals with applications for school places if you live in Birmingham and pay council tax to the authority.
The application closing date is on October 31. Applications made after that date will be classed as late applications and will not be processed until after places are offered to everyone else on March 1, 2023.
What to keep in mind while applying?
There are some caveats for applying and the home to school distance is one of the major ones. “Think about how your child would travel to the schools you apply for. It is your responsibility to make sure your child can get to and from school,” a council spokesman said.
It is also worth knowing that the majority of separate boys’ and girls’ schools are not considered to be linked for the purposes of sibling claims. They also do not class siblings in a sixth form as valid siblings for entry into Year 7.
If a pupil attends any of the following all-through schools in Year , you don’t need to list the school as one of your six preferences. Your child will automatically move up from Year 6 to Year : Ark Kings Academy, Ark Victoria Academy, Bournville School, King Solomon International Business School, Washwood Heath Academy or Waverley School.
