8 youths from south Birmingham arrested for murder at Asda in Redditch

Eight people from South Birmingham have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was stabbed to death outside an Asda supermarket in Redditch on Tuesday (10 March) - and police are looking for three more.

Ian Kirwan, 53, from Redditch, died after being stabbed around 7.20pm outside Asda supermarket on Jinnah Road.

Formal identification has yet to take place but Ian’s family have agreed to publish his name, West Mercia Police said.

Following a search of the area, six youths, all from the south Birmingham area, were arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody.

Today, two further youths from the south Birmingham area have also been arrested on suspicion of murder.

The force believes three further youths were involved in the incident and are appealing to them to contact police.

Officers remain at the scene and enquiries are also ongoing.

Safer Neighbourhood Officers have increased patrols in Redditch and will maintain a highly visible presence over the coming days.

Appeal for information

A spokesman for West Mercia Police, said: “Anyone who was in the area of Asda around the time of the incident and saw, or captured on dash cam, anything that could help officers is asked to get in touch.”
