A man has been charged with the murder of Andrew Gardner, who died after being stabbed in Handsworth. A post mortem examination concluded he died from a single stab wound.

Andrew, 41, died in hospital on Sunday (18 September) evening after being stabbed just after 7.15pm in Alexandra Road, in Handsworth.

Lesean Williams, 19 , from Alexandra Road, will appear before Birmingham magistrates today (23 September).

The West Midlands Police had previously said that a 19-year-old man was arrested on 21 September to be questioned.

Earlier this week, Andrew’s family paid tribute to their “caring, loving son, father, brother and uncle.” They said: “His passing will leave a big hole in our lives, but he will be forever in our hearts.”

Detective Inspector Michelle Thurgood, from the West Midlands Police homicide unit, said that they are continuing to support the beloved father’s family in their time of grief.

Previously, she said: “Our sympathies are very much with Andrew’s family as they come to terms with his loss.

“Our investigation has progressed swiftly and even though we have made an arrest, I still urge anyone with information to come forward.”
