The latest addition to the PizzaExpress family in Birmingham, at the ICC, joining the others in Birmingham. Opening its doors on September 13, 2024, this new venue is not just a pizzeria but also a haven for music lovers. The restaurant features the brand’s first record store outside of London, selling vinyl and CDs from artists on its own PX Records label.
But that’s not all. The venue also boasts a space for live music performances, aptly named ‘Live Sessions,’ which will take place every Thursday from 6pm. This initiative aims to spotlight local artists, providing a platform for them to showcase their talents to an appreciative audience.
What is the setting and ambiance like at this Pizza Express?
As we stepped into the newly opened PizzaExpress, the aroma of freshly baked dough and the sound of music greeted us warmly.
Located beside the canal at the convention centre, the restaurant boasts an outdoor dining terrace with views of the bridge that crosses to Brindleyplace. It’s also just a stone’s throw from the iconic Black Sabbath Bridge. The general manager, Ilham Tahmazov, describes the pizzeria as a “stylish new setting for locals to enjoy their PizzaExpress favourites.”

Meanwhile, the main floor was divided into two distinct sections: the front area allowed diners to watch pizzas being crafted and artists performing, while the more secluded section provided an intimate dining experience with dim lighting.
What’s on the menu?
Our culinary adventure began with a delightful array of starters. The Classic Dough Balls were a nostalgic treat, while the American Hot Dough Balls added a spicy twist. The Mozzarella Sticks were perfectly gooey, and the Anchovy Bruschetta brought a burst of umami. The Spicy Wings were the perfect prelude to the main event.

Each slice was a masterpiece, from the robust flavors of the Bruno and the hearty Meatball Italiano, to the fresh and vibrant Margherita Pesto Pomodoro. The American Hot delivered a fiery kick, while the Padana offered a delightful blend of goat cheese and caramelized onions. The Pollo Ad Astra was a crowd-pleaser, and the Ad Astra Potatoes and Crispy Potatoes were the perfect sides to complement our feast.
The drinks menu was just as impressive, with options for every palate. We opted for a glass of Prosecco, which was light and refreshing, perfect for balancing the rich flavors of the food. Other notable mentions include the Peroni, Pomegranate Sparkle, Sipsmith Martini, and the Alcohol Free Gin & Tonic
