The Birmingham German Christmas Market, also known as the Frankfurt Christmas Market, has been a staple of the city’s festive celebrations since 1997. Originally brought over from Birmingham’s twin city of Frankfurt, the market has grown to become the largest authentic German Christmas market outside of Germany and Austria.
Each year, it attracts around 5.5 million visitors who come to enjoy the festive atmosphere, traditional German food and drink, and a wide array of handcrafted gifts.
What makes it the best?
Christmas Tree World’s research considered several factors to determine the best Christmas markets in the UK. Birmingham’s market scored an impressive 7.86 out of 10, placing it ahead of Edinburgh and Manchester1. The criteria included the number of social media posts, search volumes, the average price of nearby hotels, and the proximity to train stations.
One of the standout features of Birmingham’s market is its duration. Running from November 1 to December 24, it is the longest-running Christmas market in the UK, offering visitors ample time to soak in the festive spirit1. The market’s central location in New Street and Victoria Square makes it easily accessible, just a five-minute walk from the city’s main train station.
