Birmingham’s oldest Chinese restaurant Chung Ying Cantonese awarded for the best dumplings in the UK

An Asian restaurant in Birmingham’s China town walked away with a national food award, which meant that the best dumpling in the UK is right on your doorstep.
Chung Ying Cantonese won Best Dumplings in the UK at The Golden Chopsticks Awards - which recognises East and South East Asian cuisine around the country.

Hide Ad“It was a wild night and we got to rub chopsticks with some famous faces like Gok Wan, Ken Hom and other fantastic restaurateurs such Park Chinois.
“We knew we had the best dumplings in the country and now its official. Our Dim Sum menu has over 100 varieties and is the largest in the country,” said proprietor James Wong.


The Chinese Quarter restaurant, which won the award for its dumplings has had decades of practice to hone the skill. It is, afterall, the oldest Chinese restaurant in Birmingham having been started 40 years ago by proprietor James’ father.
The restaurant is currently run by James and his brother William who have picked up a string of awards over the past decade for their family. James is a also popular philanthropist in the Birmingham community and hosts a lunch for the Chinese elderly at his restaurant every month.

Hide AdChung Ying Cantonese is one of the latest Birmingham hospitality businesses to win an award with The Wilderness and Carters of Moseley being listed among top 20 British restaurants in The Good Food Guide 2022 released earlier this week.
