Sutton resident celebrates 101st birthday surrounded by family, love and laughter
There were celebrations all round for the milestone birthday of a resident at a Sutton care home as she turned 101 this month.
Doris Price, who lives at Sutton Rose care home, part of Macc Care Group, celebrated the extraordinary milestone on Friday, August 8, surrounded by family and friends.
Born in 1924, Doris has witnessed more than a century of history, from the invention of the television and the moon landing, to the dawn of the internet age.
A resident at Sutton Rose since October 2022, Doris is the proud mother of three and grandmother to two. Known for her warm smile and love of music – especially ABBA – Doris also enjoys a regular trip to the hair salon and has a lifelong passion for crafts and needlework. Her career began as a typist before she went on to share her skills as a crafts and needlework teacher. She also spent part of her life living in Germany.
To celebrate her big day, Doris’s family joined her at Sutton Rose for a special birthday party. The home was filled with music, balloons and a magnificent cake – large enough for everyone to enjoy a slice. Surrounded by her children, grandchildren, fellow residents and staff, the day was brimming with smiles, heartfelt toasts and a few happy tears.
Bhav Amlani, Director of Macc Care Group, said: “Reaching 101 years is a truly remarkable achievement, and it was an absolute pleasure to celebrate this special day with Doris and her family. Doris’s life story is full of resilience, creativity and kindness – qualities that inspire everyone here at Sutton Rose. We wish her continued happiness and good health in the year ahead.”
As the celebrations came to a close, Doris reflected on her milestone with characteristic grace and humour, offering a simple piece of advice: “Live each day as it comes – and always make time for a good song and a laugh.”
