Birmingham’s influence on television and film culture has grown significantly over the years.
From detective and crime dramas to comedy to non-fiction shows - there’s been some iconic TV shows that have been created in our city.
From BBC’s Pebble Mill to ATV’s Midlands studios - some incredible gems have been made over the years. The influence of Peaky Blinders and its writer Steven Knight cannot be understated, and with the new Peaky movie set to start shooting in Birmingham this September, we’ve decided to have a look at some of the very best films and television shows that were filmed in the city.

1. Stan and Ollie
Stan and Ollie, starring Steve Coogan and John C Reily, was filmed at a number of locations including Birmingham.The film was also shot in Birmingham’s Old Rep Theatre as well as the Black Country Museum. 2. Ready Player One
Steven Spielberg based much of the filming for Ready Player One in Birmingham, but also utilised several London locations for the sci-fi action adventure film. Birmingham locations included Digbeth and Lionel Street. | Getty

3. The Kingsman: The Golden Circle

4. This Town
Steven Knight's 2024 BBC dram This Town was filmed in Birmingham and Coventry - where it's also based. Parts of the BBC show were also filmed at the Digbeth Loc Studios, as well as in the south Brum neighbourhood of Druids Heath | SWNS
