Residents and colleagues at HMT St Quentin Care Home marked International Beatles Week with their own take on Beatlemania, including a Beatles-inspired version of the traditional beetle game called Twist and Shout Beetle.

They also put a musical spin on the classic game Twister.

The celebrations continued with an hour dedicated to the music of Dolly Parton, giving residents the chance to sing along to familiar songs, reminisce and enjoy music spanning generations.

The activities were designed to show how music can play an important role in everyday life at the home, helping residents connect with others and prompting memories and conversations.

Tracy Moody, activities lead at St Quentin Care Home, said: “Music has an incredible ability to bring people together. You can put on a familiar song, and suddenly someone is singing, tapping their feet, sharing a memory or simply smiling.

“Those moments might seem small, but they can be incredibly meaningful.”

She said the activities reflected the home's MAGIC care model, which focuses on creating meaningful experiences and recognising each resident as an individual.

“Our MAGIC approach is about understanding what matters to each resident and finding ways to bring enjoyment, purpose and connection into everyday life,” she added.

“This week has been a wonderful example of that – and there has certainly been plenty of laughter along the way.”

St Quentin comprises three homes on one site, supporting people with different care needs.

The home said activities such as music and games are intended to encourage participation, choice and connection, while helping residents continue to enjoy interests that are important to them.
