So, what is Two Tone and when will we see it on our screens?

Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming show.

What is Two Tone about?

Two Tone is a new original six part series created, produced and written by Steven Knight. The show will premiere on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

The series will tell the story of an extended family and four young people who are drawn into the world of ska and two tone music, which grew from the grass roots of Coventry and Birmingham in the late 70s and early 80s.

The music united black, white and Asian youths in an expression of unity.

Steven Knight spoke on the project, saying that: “this is a project that’s literally very close to home and I’m developing characters and themes that are set in the early 80s but hopefully are very contemporary.”

“Of course, the soundtrack will be sensational.”

The show will be produced by Kudos, a Banijay UK Company and one of the world’s leading TV production companies. Recent productions from this company include: Code 404 (Sky One), Grantchester (ITV), Two Weeks to Live (Sky One), Ladybaby (BBC3) and Utopia (C4 / Amazon), with major new series including SAS Rogue Heroes (BBC One).

The show will also be produced by Steven Knight’s production company Nebulastar.

The exciting news has set the entertainment industry a buzz, with Ben Irving, Acting Director of BBC Drama saying: “Steven has taken his knowledge of this time and place and used it to weave a brilliantly original and characterful drama, set against the musical backdrop of ska and two tone.”
