Road closures: seven for Birmingham drivers this week

Drivers in and around Birmingham will have seven National Highways road closures to watch out for this week.

Drivers in and around Birmingham will have seven National Highways road closures to watch out for this week.

And two of them are expected to cause moderate delays – with motorists facing holdups of between 10 minutes and half an hour.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that four closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

M6, from 9pm July 2 to 6am July 4, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 northbound, junction 4 to junction 5, Lane closure for Construction improvement/Upgrade, Narrow lanes with single lane running.

M6, from 8pm June 20 to 6am July 9, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 northbound, junction 3 to junction 4, Lane closure for White Lining/Road Markings.

M6, from 9pm September 18 2019 to 6am December 31 2022, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6, junction 6 BC link road, 24 hour hatched area for bridge repairs.

A5, from 9pm December 8 2021 to 5.30am September 30 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A5 westbound, hints bypass between the A453 and A38 junctions, (tamworth to lichfield), temporary speed, lane closures with switching and narrow lanes running for general construction works.

And a further three closures will begin over the next seven days:

M42, from 9pm July 5 to 6am July 8, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 southbound, junction 6 to junction 4, Lane closure leading to carriageway and associated slip road closure for Construction improvement/Upgrades.

M6, from 9pm July 8 to 6am July 9, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 northbound, junction 5 to junction 6, Lane closure for barriers.

M42, from 9pm July 10 to 6am July 18, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 southbound, junction 6 to junction 4, Lane closure leading to carriageway and associated slip road closure for Construction improvement/Upgrades, 1. M6 SB Mainline diversion to the M6 J4 - A38 - A452, A446 to the M6 J4, 2. M6 SB Mainline to the M42 J6 - A38 - A452, A446, M42 traffic now splits off mainline diversion onto the A452 - A45, 3. A38 Out of City to the M6 SB and J6 M6 SB entry Link - M6 NB to J7 - M6 SB - J6 to join mainline diversion.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
