Road closures: more than a dozen for Birmingham drivers over the next fortnight

Drivers in and around Birmingham will have 13 National Highways road closures to watch out for this week.

Drivers in and around Birmingham will have 13 National Highways road closures to watch out for this week.

And five of them are expected to cause delays of between 10 minutes and half an hour.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that six closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

M6, from 9pm January 27 to 6am January 29, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 northbound, junction 5 to junction 6, slip road and lane closures for maintenance works, diversion via National Highways and local authority network.

M6, from 9pm November 27 2023 to 6am February 3 2024, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 both directions jct five to jct seven, carriageway, link roads and lane closures for drainage works.

M6, from 8pm November 13 2023 to 6am February 5 2024, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 southbound, jct six to jct 5, carriageway closure for bridge joint replacement works, diversion via National Highways and local authority network.

M6, from 9pm September 18 2019 to 6am December 31 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6, junction 6 BC link road, 24 hour hatched area for bridge repairs.

M6, from 6am January 12 to 11.59pm December 31, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 southbound, junction 6 to junction 5, Hard shoulder closures with 50mph speed restriction for maintenance works.

A446, from 9pm November 27 2023 to 5am December 10 2026, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M42 both directions jct 7A to jct nine and M6 both directions jct 3A to M42, Lane and carriageway closures for construction works for HS2.

A38(M), from 9pm January 29 to 6am January 30, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A38M southbound, Gravely Hill to Aston Expressway, Lane closure for maintenance works.

M6, from 9pm January 29 to 6am January 31, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 northbound, junction 6 to junction 7, exit and entry slip road closure and lane closure for maintenance works, diversion via National Highways and local authority network.

M6, from 9am to 4pm on January 30, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 northbound, junction 6 to junction 7, mobile lane closure for maintenance works.

A446, from 9pm February 5 to 6am February 10, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 northbound, junction 6 to junction 7, carriageway, slip road, link road and lane closures for resurfacing works, diversion via National Highways and local authority network.

M6, from 9pm February 6 to 6am February 7, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 southbound, junction 6 to junction 5, Lane closure for communication works.

M5, from 9pm February 7 to 6am February 9, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M5 both directions, junction 3 to junction 4, Lane closure for inspection works.

M42, from 9pm February 12 to 6am May 6, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 northbound and southbound, junction 5 to junction 8, carriageway, slip road, link road and lane closures due to technology works, diversion via National Highways network.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
