Road closures: almost a dozen for Birmingham drivers this week

Drivers in and around Birmingham will have 10 National Highways road closures to watch out for this week.

And three of them are expected to cause delays of between 10 and 30 minutes.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that three closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

• M42, from 9pm January 17 to 6am May 1, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 northbound and southbound, junction 10a to junction 4a, hard shoulder and lane closure with link road closures for access to the emergency refuge bays to upgrade signage.

• M6, from 9pm September 18 2019 to 6am December 31 2022, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6, junction 6 BC link road, 24 hour hatched area for bridge repairs.

• A5, from 9pm December 8 2021 to 5.30am September 30 2023, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A5 westbound, hints bypass between the A453 and A38 junctions, (tamworth to lichfield), temporary speed, lane closures with switching and narrow lanes running for general construction works.

And a further seven closures will begin over the next seven days:

• M42, from 9pm April 11 to 5am April 14, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M42 northbound and southbound, junction 8 to junction 9, lane closures for survey works.

• A38(M), from 10pm April 11 to 6am April 12, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A38M southbound, Tyburn Road to Park Circus (into City), carriageway closure for inspection/survey.

• A456, from 10.30pm April 11 to 5.30am April 29, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A456 / M5, junction 3 roundabout and M5, junction 3 southbound, exit slip, Lane closures to support off network closure of the Quinton Expressway.

• M6, from 10pm April 19 to 6am June 18, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): M6 from Salford Circus Roundabout to M6.junction 6 northbound and southbound, entry slips, 24/7 slip road carriageway closures for structural inspections.

• M6, from 8pm April 21 to 6am April 23, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 northbound, junction 2 to junction 4, lane closures for vegetation clearance.

• A38, from 9pm April 21 to 6am April 22, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A38 southbound, Lane two closure up to and including Langley Mill Island -Electrical works- repair traffic signals.

• M6, from 9pm April 25 to 5am April 30, slight delays (under 10 minutes): M6 northbound and southbound,, junction 6 to junction 7, Lane closures for lamp column replacement.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
